Why do Domains matter?
Domains are digital properties that tie a digital asset, such as an application, a website or a network, back to a business.
Websites tend to be the most obvious examples of domains establishing a relationship between a company and the digital asset (the website). While in the website example, the domain is part of the website e.g. www.intricately.com, domains exist among lesser-known digital assets such as applications, networks, traffic, points of presence, and other digital assets where domains are less visible.
In order to gain a comprehensive view of a company’s digital (and physical) infrastructure, it’s critical to identify all of the domains a company operates.
What does Intricately do with Domains?
Intricately uses domains to comprehensively map out a company’s digital and physical infrastructure. This collection of digital data forms the basis for how Intricately ties traffic, product deployments, applications, and more back to a parent company entity.
What is Domain Mapping?
Domain Mapping is the process of comprehensively identifying all the domains a company operates.
Why is Domain Mapping Hard?
Similar to (or perhaps even more complicated than) physical addresses there is actually no reliable way to determine the owner of a domain. This is due to a combination of private registrations offered by domain Registrars which hide a Registrant's identity, and a lack of verification and enforcement requiring Registrants to provide accurate contact information.
How is Domain Mapping done?
Intricately uses a domain's entity map which includes the domain's dependencies, applications and the products powering those applications to compare itself to other domains. When the entity maps of two domains have significant overlap, the domains are said to be related. This logic forms the basis of Domain Mapping.
Record Matching - A Common Domain Mapping Use Case
A common customer use case for Intricately's domain maps is matching Intricately data to records in your CRM or Data Warehouse. Because Intricately can see all the domains a business operates, we're able to deliver an exceptional match rate of the records in your CRM or data store.
Domain Mapping Confidence Levels
Because it's often challenging to confidently associate a domain with the company that operates it, Intricately provides confidence scoring of our system’s ability to establish relationships between domains the companies operating them.
Confidence Level | Explanation |
---|---|
High | We are highly confident in the company's domain mapping. This is our highest level of confidence and the majority of companies in the Intricately universe have this confidence level. In some scenarios, we've manually reviewed the domain mapping ourselves. |
Medium | We are moderately confident in the company's domain mapping. |
Low | We are not confident about this company's domain mapping. The company's domains do not share enough similar attributes for us to confidently establish the domains as being related and operated by the same company. |
